5 questions to ask your wedding photographer

What are the most important questions that you need to ask your wedding photographer before booking them? Some photographers will have a FAQ page on their website so do check that they have one before booking and read up on the information so you are fully informed about your photographer and what’s ahead of you.

Let’s have a look…..

1- How many weddings have you photographed?

(Less than 12 weddings photographed, the photographer’s rates should be less than the market rate which is around 1,500 ish depending on your area)

2- Have you had any issues during any of your weddings and how have you dealt with them?

It’s important that your photographer is honest with you, so you know how professional they are.

3- Are all the images on your site your own or have you used any promotional photographs?

Some photographers may use other photographers’ photographs if they do not have a portfolio to advertise that they are wedding photographer, you need to know what the quality of photography they have and what you will be getting.

4- What is the most important part of a photograph?

There are a lot of different parts of a photograph, but what makes a photograph a photograph is all about light, without good control of light then most photographs don’t meet high quality. Other important points to a photograph are composition, focus, and emotion.

5- Will you be submitting any of our photographs to magazines or competitions and will you be using them for your portfolio?

Are you okay with having your photos online? Is it important for you to know where your photographs go? Or are you happy for the photographer to proudly showcase your photographs?

Other important issues to bring up are:

·  What will happen if your wedding lasts longer than expected?

·  How long will the posed images take?

·  Do you charge for travel?

·  What will you do if there is bad weather on our wedding day?

·  What will you do if you are sick on our wedding day?

·  Do you have an assistant?

·  Can I choose my photos for my photo album?

·  Can I have a full price list? (You don’t want to have hidden costs!)

Bonus question: Why shall I choose you as my wedding photographer?

After all, you need to know who your photographer is, that you are happy with the quality of photographs in their portfolio, and if you get along with them since you may be spending up to 12 hours a day with them!

I hope that this helps you choose your wedding photographer

Love and light, Victoria.
