Africa: Morocco - Marachesh (January, 2023)

Had the most amazing, exciting, scary, expensive time in Marrakech!! We wanted to go somewhere warmer in the winter, and it was 16 degrees.

Spent Friday traveling - 4 hour flight (2 hour waiting time at airport and 3 hour drive to airport- and drive from airport to the hotel, takes up the whole day). Then Saturday was an explore day, and Sunday was a travel day back home. I would like to go back again, unfortunately, I didn’t take my camera, so these are phone pictures. I would go again, but next time, hire a tour guide, because we had a lot of beggars around us following us.

We caught a taxi to the Serka 'market' and saw the exhibition at the 'house of photography', which was interesting, seeing photos of Morocco in the 1800s. Had a coffee on the rooftop, which was nice.

Then got collared by some "tour guides' some tanneries (which were smelly, they gave me some mint to smell though and it was interesting!) Ended up buying some expensive ass handmade camel leather items: a bag, a pouff and a ball, got some flipflops free. I was surprised to see people smoking indoors, since it’s been banned in the UK since 2007. Overall, very interesting seeing a completely different culture.
