Travel: Visiting Europe

These places I have unfortunately not taken my camera, but I have taken my phone for pictures. I’ve added links to places where possible.

Basel, Switterland (June 2025)

A few days away trip to Basel in Switzerland - a celebratory trip for finishing year 2 of uni. This is a must-visit city for art lovers!

Day 1.

We walked around the city and went to the Kunst museum. I was pleasantly surprised to see Picasso and Van Gogh's work!

Day 2.

Went over the border to Germany (Where the police ID’ the passengers on the bus, lucky my husband brought our Passports!). Then we walked over the 3 countries bridge. Walked over to France, walked back, and then headed back over to Basel. We visited another museum: Tinguely (which was fun), and got a little ghost ride as well.

Day 3.

We went to the university botanical garden (which was free) and had another walk around the city. We saw the original city wall (amazingly preserved).

Netherlands (April 2025)

Family easter holiday. We stayed in Eurocamp. We visited:

Amsterdam: Fabrique Des Luminer - an immersive light show; very surreal!

Dolores maze: Utrecht - 25 euros each, but totally worth it! An incredible experience, you have to be physically fit to be able to do it, there is a lot of climbing and crawling. No photos allowed.

Utrecht - Rainbow cycle road/lane.

Amsterdam: Nemo science museum - this place is epic!

We also ate at a Korean BBQ, in Amsterdam, where we had to cook our food. It was a unique experience that we hadn’t had before.

Lisbon, Potugal (April 2025)

Celebrating my 40th Birthday with my husband for a couple of days in Lisbon.

We visited Alma, a 2-Michelin-starred and 5-star restaurant. I had a tasting experience - they brought out 14 courses of food! (7 select menu, and 7 surprise dishes)I chose the Alma and my husband had the cost, to coast. The staff were amazing and I ate many new foods!

We also had a tuk-tuk tour of Lisbon; this was my first tuk-tuk ride, which was amusing because our tour guide was American. After exploring the city a little, we rode the funicular back up the hill.

Plus, we walked down to the coast and caught a tram over to Balham, to have a look at the Balham tower, circa 1500s.

Venice, Italy (January 2024)

I had a day trip with my sister. It involved seeing the surrounding islands, Burrano, via the water taxi. It was very cold and drizzly, unfortunately, and the water taxis took close to an hour each time, because first we had to go to Murano, then to Burano, the island that I wanted to see, because of all the colourful houses. It was nice spending time with my sister, though. The extreme 24-hour trip was a little much for me!

So, it took us over 6 hours to get to my little island and £50 for the cost of the water taxis. When we finally got to Venice, it was dark, but we had a little wonder, and we found a coffee shop, with a bloke who worked in hull (an Italian lawyer) who gave us a free expresso, and said we can go on the mailing list of a club round the corner. We also met an American who helped us get on the right water taxi! I had spaghetti and my sister had pizza (because when in Italy, it's rude not to!). 22k steps walked.

Stockholm, Sweden (March 2024)

Another 24-hour extreme day trip with my sister. We spent the day in Stockholm visiting museums. We visited the ABBA museum for my sister, and then a couple of ship museums, because my sister is fond of ships. I found these fascinating, especially the VASA museum, which has the oldest well-preserved ship in the world. Finally, we visited the AVICCI museum, as we are both trance fans. It was a chilly day, but I had a good time with my sister.

I decided that the extreme 24-hour day trips are too intense for me, and I prefer the weekend trips, 3 days(Travel day, explore day, and travel day), which suits me better.

Nice, South France (May 2023)

My husband and I went here for our 1st wedding anniversary for the weekend,

We visited Phoenix Park (where we saw a rogue escapee scorpion) and walked up to Castle Hill (Le chateau) and saw a waterfall, and of course, we had to have a baguette.

We also took a few-mile hike around the coastline, which was lovely, and we saw some WW1 bunkers, the weather was beautiful, and I got burnt. 18k steps walked in total and nearly 8 miles.

I didn’t take my camera, but got a few snaps on my phone.
